Project Run and Play week 1

This is my first ever Project Run and Play sew along and first entry as well.  I am beginning to become addicted to these sew alongs.  So much fun : ).  I have been participating in the Frances and Suzanne Flip This Pattern sew along since the second month and I am truly becoming more imaginative with designing than I ever thought I could be.  This first week for Project Run and Play is to mix up the Popover Sundress by Oliver & S.  This is a great pattern and you can find tons of inspiration on Flicker.  Here is my flip...
I knew I wanted to stick with fall colors and gold was on top of the list. Just like every flip, I run to the fabric store and pick up $30 worth of fabric that I end up not using.  This flip was no different.  I picked up gold sequin sheer fabric and ended up using this brown linen that I have been hording for the last five years.  I was thinking the roughness of the linen would be awesome with the shimmering gold.  I really played up the roughness of the linen by leaving the edges raw.  I love that look and linen is one of the best fabrics to use for that effect.
So what are the changes I made with the pattern?  First I added a few inches to the front to create the pleat.  I also curved the top bodice and cut the pattern in half so that I did not have anything to fold.  I just sewed three layers together and than sewed it down.  I also added a lot of fabric and a curve to the sides so the top would swing a little more.  The back I made quite a few changes : )
I cut the back so that there was a curve, added maybe three inches and than gathered it to the original patterns size.  I actually used one long strip of bias tape (not folded in half) to go all the way around and turn into straps.  I added two more strips of fabric to each strap to thicken them up a bit.  I than put three button holes on each strap and two wood buttons on the back.

I think it turned out kida pretty : )  And you know I cut this in the size two but with the adjustable straps it fit my 6 month old, the two year old pictured and a four year old as well.  So I am thinking Mila will have this one for many years.

    1. Thanks!!! I did make the jeans also. The jeans were kinda tuff to add the ruffle on such a small pant leg.
      Thanks again
